For many years, Napa Valley was synonymous with the name "American wines", because it was the most famous wine region in the USA.
Napa Valley is one of the world's most important wine regions, which, although it has experienced many problems in the past, today is recognized worldwide. With over 400 wineries, most of them family-owned and with many famous wines, it is an attraction for both tourists and those who just want to pick a wine off the store shelf.
Cabernet Sauvignon dominates by far the other varieties planted in Napa Valley, 50% of the area is planted with this variety, the rest being a mixture in varying proportions of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel.
Cabernet Sauvignon style in this region is a rich and lush with aromas of red fruit, cocoa, and leather. Tannins are usually prominent, but soften and become well-integrated as the wine ages.
Hundred Acre is no exception to this rule and adds extra attention to detail and finesse in winemaking. All the work in the vineyard is done by hand, including harvesting and sorting not only the grapes but also the berries, in addition, the wood for the oak barrels is also chosen by the winery, which leads to total control of the wine that is produced. All Hundred Acre grapes come from small parcels of vines, selected and analyzed for soil type, rootstock, and time of harvest, and fermented separately.
Hundred Acre, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013, Napa Valley
It is a surprising wine from the first taste. It has a red-violet color, and opens with an extraordinary fragrance of black currants and blackberries, with hints of licorice and tobacco, with some fine notes of leather and earth. Highly extracted wine with an intense fruity taste that surprises you with pleasant, slightly overripe notes of black cherries, with a cherry syrup acidity. It has a velvety, elegant texture with a very long finish, is nicely spiced, and is perfectly balanced.
Winery owner Jayson Woodbridge's favorite motto is "to be among the best or not at all," which translates perfectly into this wine.
